As the seasons change, it’s natural for daily routines to shift as well (and I do love a routine…) Winter often brings heavier skincare, darker makeup shades and cosy evening habits that suit colder weather. But by the time the spring beauty routines arrive, I find myself reaching for lighter textures, fresher fragrances and simpler routines.
Refreshing your beauty routine for spring doesn’t mean replacing everything you already use (because we all have our old favourites!) Often it’s just a few small adjustments that help you feel more in tune with the season.
The brighter mornings, longer days and warmer air naturally encourage a slightly lighter approach to skincare, makeup and self-care. A fresh fragrance, a new lip colour or a slower evening skincare routine can make the whole season feel more energising – and new.
These simple ideas focus on small seasonal changes that can help your routine feel refreshed without becoming complicated.
Choose a Lighter Fragrance for Spring Beauty Routines
Scent is one of the easiest ways to mark a change in season (and I absolutely love fragrances! I’m still going on all the products I received in the Harvey Nichols fragrance advent calendar)
During winter, people often reach for deeper fragrances with warm notes like amber, vanilla or spices. In spring, lighter scents tend to feel more natural – citrus, soft florals and green notes work beautifully as the weather becomes brighter.
Even a small change like switching perfumes can subtly shift how the day feels.

Fresh fragrances often include notes like:
- bergamot
- orange blossom
- jasmine
- rose
- green tea
These types of scents feel clean and uplifting without being overpowering. Daisy by Marc Jacobs is a perfect example of this – and even the bottle screams spring!
A small perfume tray on a dressing table can also help keep everyday fragrances organised while creating a calm space to start the day.
Lighten Your Skincare for Warmer Weather
As temperatures change, skin often needs slightly different care (especially if you have sensitive skin) for your spring beauty routines.
Winter skincare tends to focus on richer creams and heavier hydration, while spring routines often benefit from lighter textures. I actually find that gel moisturisers or lighter lotions feel more comfortable as the weather warms up.
Hydrating serums and gentle exfoliation can also help brighten the skin after winter.

Small seasonal adjustments might include:
- introducing a vitamin C serum – this serum by Medik8 comes with a higher price tag, but is well worth the results!
- switching to a lighter moisturiser
- using a gentle exfoliating product once or twice a week
These changes don’t need to be dramatic – even one new product can make skin feel fresher and more energised.
A simple two-tier skincare organiser tray can also help keep everyday products tidy and visible so the routine feels easier to maintain.
Add a Fresh Lip Colour
Makeup often changes with the seasons as well. Spring tends to bring softer, brighter shades that feel lighter than winter colours. Admittedly, I prefer lighter, subtler approaches to makeup anyway, so the spring suits me for makeup!
Instead of deep berry or plum tones, for spring beauty routines, many of us enjoy switching to:
- Soft coral – Laura Mercier does some beautiful products (the setting powder I’ve got in multiple beauty advent calendars is such a winner!), so I recommend trying her hydra creme refillable lipstick to add the spring coral touch to your lips
- Peach
- Rose pink
- Warm nude shades
These colours brighten the face without feeling heavy.

A Bare Minerals tinted lip balm can also work well in spring when you want a little colour but still prefer a natural look.
Keeping everyday items in a small makeup bag can make morning routines quicker and help keep surfaces clutter free.
Slow Down Your Evening Skincare Routine
Spring evenings often feel calmer and lighter than winter ones. With a little extra daylight, it can be easier to slow down at the end of the day.
Instead of rushing through skincare, taking a few extra minutes to apply products slowly can turn a practical task into a more relaxing part of the evening (we all need to take time to engage in a little more self-care!)

This might simply mean:
- Removing makeup more slowly – try these cotton cleansing cloths to ensure your skin is as clear and able to breathe as much as can be after having makeup on all day
- Applying moisturiser with a gentle facial massage – use a soft headband to keep the hair away from your face
- Using a facial roller for a few minutes
Small habits like this can make evenings feel calmer without requiring too many extra products.
Enjoy a Relaxing Bath or Shower
Although baths are often associated with winter, they can be just as relaxing for your spring beauty routines.
A warm bath after a busy day can help mark the transition from daytime activity into evening rest – even a slightly longer shower with a favourite body wash can create the same feeling (especially if you’re lucky enough to have a rainfall shower!)

Adding simple elements like bath epsom salts or aromatherapy bath oils can make the experience feel more luxurious without needing much effort.
A wooden bath tray can also make it easier to keep a book, candle or cup of tea nearby while relaxing.
Keep Your Vanity Area Calm and Organised for Your Spring Beauty Routines
Spring is often a time when people feel motivated to simplify their surroundings – and I find it a massive head clearer! The same idea works well for personal spaces like dressing tables or bathroom counters.
Clearing unnecessary items and keeping only the products you regularly use can make everyday routines feel a lot calmer.

Small organisational changes can make a big difference – think a vanity tray like the one I mentioned earlier for perfume, or a makeup organiser box which can help group items together so surfaces remain tidy.
Take a Few Minutes for Yourself in the Morning
Spring mornings often feel brighter and quieter before the day fully begins – even a few minutes spent slowly getting ready with a cuppa (or two) can make mornings feel much more enjoyable.
Tip: Treat yourself to a satin robe for your getting ready routine! They are game-changing for how you end up feeling to approach the oncoming day.

This might simply mean:
- Applying skincare slowly – use these hair claw clips as an alternative to the headband mentioned earlier, to keep your hair way from your face (plus, they can be used for styling!)
- Enjoying a cup (more realistically, cups) of tea or coffee while getting ready – and even better, treat yourself to using one of your better ceramic mugs
- Opening a window to let fresh air in
These small moments can make mornings feel calmer before the daily chaos starts again.
Beauty Routines That Feel Right for the Season
Refreshing your beauty routine for spring doesn’t need to involve major changes – often, the smallest adjustments make the biggest difference.
A lighter fragrance, a softer lip colour or a slightly slower evening routine can help daily habits feel more enjoyable and aligned with the season.
As spring settles in, routines naturally become lighter and more relaxed. Allowing space for those small seasonal changes can make everyday self-care feel refreshing rather than repetitive.
